Coach / Bus

HI,

Is there a difference in the words Coach and Bus? Is one AmE and the other BrE or something else?

'Coach' is usually used to indicate a luxury bus. And all others are called buses. As far as my knowledge goes 'coach' is not used in AmE ,but 'bus' is used in both, AmE and BrE.

Both of them have the same meaning but are used differently.'Coach' is usually used to indicate a luxury bus. And all others are called buses. As far as my knowledge goes 'coach' is not used in AmE ,but 'bus' is used in both, AmE and BrE.

As a supplement, in the UK:

A coach usually makes long journeys with few stops. A bus usually makes shorter journeys with stops at frequent intervals.

You usually have to buy a ticket for a coach journey in advance. The coach will travel by main roads, and will rarely stop to pick up passengers who simply hail the coach from the roadside.
