Co-Sponsorship Letter

Question

Hi All,My name is Sapphire and I was requested to write a sponsorship letter for my friend's wife who is from South America. He's a British Citizen and they're currently applying for a spousal visa. I really want to write a good letter for them as assistance to help with their application. I've been searching for a format to start but havent found any. Can anyone assist me in writing such a letter or if there is a sample of a format I can follow and then add my own few words?Your help is greatly appreciated!Sapphire

Hi Sapphire,

My first thought is to ask whether you have a good understanding of what sponsorship means. Does it place any legal obligations or requirements on you? For example, if the person needs financial help later, do you have any obligation?

If there are such requirements, I would think that the letter should say clearly that you are willing, and in a position, to accept them.

Or is 'a sponsorship letter' just the same as 'a reference letter'? I wouldn't think so.

Hi Clive,

I do have a good understanding of my responsibility of being a Co-Sponsorship. My friend would really be the one sponsoring his wife but if they should fall into a financial predicament I have no objection in supporting them fully. This is what I would like to explain in my letter along with a character reference for her. Basically I would like to state the necessary detail of my background in the first paragraph, explain how i met her and perhaps an opinion of her character in the second paragraph and in the third paragraph explain that I have no obligation in supporting the couple fully and that they can be assured that this couple will not become a burden to it's country and people.

Perhaps something like this:

My name is Sapphire and I live at the above address. I am a Marketing Officer for Debenhams and a close friend of both Alfred & Melissa. I write this brief supporting letter to further support the application of a spouse visa for Melissa to enter the UK as the wife of Alfred.

I have been a close friend of Alfred since we both worked together in 2000. We have also socialised together on a regular basis. In September 2004 Alfred informed me of an online relationship he was having with Melissa. He shared pictures and some of their conversations with me. In December 2004 Alfred informed me that he wished to visit Melissa which he did. When he returned, Alfred seemed happy to have met Melissa and that their relationship would continue. In June 2006, I met Melissa and found her to be a good match for Alfred. I have since socialised with them as a couple.

I confirm that their relationship is a genuine relationship and confirm that they have both the financial and educational background to do well as a couple here in the UK. I would like to also state that if necessary, I would be willing and able to support the couple financially if such they got into such a financial predicament. I would like to assure the government of England that they are not a public burden to this country or its people.

I hope that my supporting letter will assist in Melissa’s spouse visa application and hope that it can be completed as soon as possible so that she can join us for the Christmas period.
