A lot depends on cultural norms. In the UK you sign off a formal letter with 'yours sincerely' if you don't know the name of the recipient (started with 'Dear Sir' or similar), and 'yours faithfully' if you do (Dear Mrs Smith...). With informal notes or email more or less anything goes, 'best wishes', 'kind regards', 'yours', and many more.

Hi Vic,
When I lived in England years ago, it was the other way around, ie
Dear Sir / Your faithfully
Dear Mrs Smith / Yours sincerely
Is this no longer the case?

You are absolutely right Clive, I can't believe I made such a schoolboy mistake. And apologies to 'Anon.'
