Hello! Which word fits better, 'closeness' or 'connection'?

Bearing in mind findings of research at our disposal which analysed the causes of ethnic violence escalated at a local level (cities, towns), it seems that precisely the degree of openness to other ethnic groups and the degree of interethnic networking and closeness/connection in everyday life are the key element which generates the type of social solidarity which reduces the probability of ethnic violence in the periods of interethnic tensions.
