"Closed for Winter" BRILLIANT!

This weekend, our local drive-in ended its extended showing of "Closed For Winter" a "minimalist" movie that left varying impressions on its viewers. Personally I thought it was brilliant and daring, others, less sensitive I'm afraid, found it tedious and boring. Some even honked their horns well into the start of its showing claiming they hadn't realized that the movie had begun.

"Closed For Winter" opens with a blank, white screen. There is no dialogue or soundtrack, or even actors only complete silence. There are no trailers for upcoming movies, the theater owner must sense that this would spoil the wonderful "experience."
And what an experience! After a very long while, the screen remains blankly white and silent and only then do you begin to realize the depth of genius in this beautifully filmed movie. And then it hits you the full force of its subtlety overwhelms you. Indeed we are "Closed" - "For" - "Winter."
This bleakly silent message screams of man's desperate balancing act on the edge of oblivion, and his final slip into the infinite abyss. There is nothing more to be seen. It is gone. A white slate of nothingness is all that remains. True to this theme, the screen remains blank throughout. No sound spoils the perfection of the soundtrack. The power and simplicity remains pure, unchallenged by the banality of forced dialogue and unnecessary plot complications.
At the climax, the white screen simply fades to white... and we know it is the end.

The commentary track version would be pretty much the same as the regular version as it should be.

I have the soundtrack it's John Cage's "One Minute of Silence" only they just keep playing it over and over and over.

Around here it's playing as a double feature along with "Come See Us Next Spring."

The sequel is already in production: "Closed for Renovations".

Whoa, there! That's not SPOILER space, that's a PREVIEW of the film! Do try to be more careful next time.

****.
Now I wish I'd watched the movie.
I ended up with a bottle of cold duck and Susan Paxton in the back seat and missed the whole film.
