Close difference ?

Greetings everyone !

I'm a french man, so my english may be not perfect.. But I'm willing to improve it Emotion: smile

And that's why I'm here today.

I'm trying to translate the meaning of a sentence into french, and I can' put the finger on the exact difference there is between:

"He could no longer work"

and

"He coudn't work any further".

Yes, the two sentences means the same, but I keep thinking there is a slight difference..

You need to say "He could no longer work", "He couldn't work any longer" or 'He couldn't work any more'. The word 'further' doesn't work in that context.
