Vocabulary

close and close up

Hello,
Which one sounds more natural to you: "All the shops had closed up/had closed for the night."? I can't see a significant difference in the context of shops, libraries, etc. However, I tend to use "close" more often. Is there anything wrong with that?

Thank you

If you use this, you don't really need the word "up." It's wordy but, many people tend to overuse that word.
