Clogged

Hello everyone. Can you please tell me what clog and clogged mean in the following sentences? I mean, what happens when a leachate collection system is clogged? Does it get stuck? Does it become full?

Thank you very much in advance.

"For instance, strain incompatibility leading to the formation of shear bands could occur within a landfill if the reinforcing elements remain largely intact but the surrounding waste softens, either because of rapid decomposition or because of elevated pore-water pressures caused, for example, by a clogged leachate collection system. This scenario is more likely to occur in closed landfills (such as the Brock West landfill) given the time required for most leachate collection systems to clog (Rowe and Fleming 1998)."

clog ~ block clogged ~ blocked When a pipe is clogged, liquid cannot pass through it, usually because a lot of undesirable matter has gotten stuck in the pipe. When they talk about the whole system being clogged, they're referring to all the various pipes and/or passageways that make up the system; these have all become impassable. Nothing can flow anymore if the whole system is clogged.
