Clinch Playoffs

Suppose I am talking about American football (NFL). "To clinch the division" means "to finish the season as the top team in that division. "To clinch a playoff spot" means getting a spot in the playoffs. "To clinch victory" in general means to win. So "clinch" means winning something (so I think).

"To clinch the playoffs" gives me trouble. Does it mean simply getting a playoff spot, or winning it all (superbowl victory)?
