clerkship

Hi,
Could you tell me what "clerkships" means in this sentence: "I did my summer clerkship, but not too big, either. And nowhere nearly as large as the European Union ....". The sentences is uttered by a young lawyer at an interview. Is it something similar to apprenticeship?

Thank you

  • Yes, I believe it is.
  • This is a requirement in various countries, eg Britain, where the young lawyer is said to be 'articled' to a more qualified one.
  • But not in the USA.

Thanks, Clive. Does "clerkship" involve anything that a clerk usually does, e.g keeping records?

I imagine "clerkship" relates more to being mentored by a qualified solicitor/lawyer, than actually carrying out the duties of a clerk.

I see. This term was slightly confusing to me. Thanks for your explanation.

note that I've changed it because I said it wrongly in the first place! My apologies! (assuming you saw the orginal that is, and that it was me you were actually replying to).
