In general, cleaning is far more common. Cleansing can have a sense of restoring purity, not simply getting rid of dirt. " It would be easier if you wrote a few sentences in which you're not sure if cleansing would work.

In general, cleaning is far more common.

Cleansing can have a sense of restoring purity, not simply getting rid of dirt. For example, we use the expression "cleansed of sin." I wouldn't say "Look how nice the windows look now that I've cleansed them."

It would be easier if you wrote a few sentences in which you're not sure if cleansing would work.
