Clean up

A clean up robot. Why wouldn't you say 'a cleaning robot' and instead use 'clean up'? Is it a noun? Then what does it mean?

"clean-up robot" needs a hyphen. Yes, "clean-up" is a noun. a=british the act of making a place clean and tidy "cleaning robot" is also fine of course, and would be more usual, I would think, for normal cleaning duties.
