It is a film animation technique: form a modeling-clay cartoon character, take a frame of film photography, move its arm slightly, take another frame of the film, move its arm a little more and its right foot a bit, take another film frame. After about 10 weeks of this, you have the little clay character (like Gumby, for instance), taking a walk down a little clay street. clay + animation = claymation
