Please check what i wrote:
1. Identify each verbal phrase, then indicate whether it is used as an adjective, and adverb, or a noun: 1. Written in 1850 by Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Scarlet Letter tells the story of Hester Prynne. The underlined part is a verbal phrase, and it modifies The Scarlet Letter, so it is used as an adjective. 2. Shunned by the community, Hester endures her loneliness. The underlined part is a verbal phrase and it modifies endures, it's used as an adverb.
2. To write sentences with subordinate clauses, combine each pair of main clauses into one sentence.Use either subordinating conjunctions or relative pronouns: 1)Moviegoers expect something. Movie sequels should be as exciting as the original films. My sentence is: Moviegoers expect something is that movie sequels should be as exciting as the original films.
2)Viewers pay to see the same villains and heroes. They remember these characters fondly. My sentence is: Viewers pay to see the same villains and heroes whom they remember these characters fondly.
3) For an example, Berke Breathed won for his Bloom County comic strip, and Roger Reynolds won for his musical composition Whispers Out of Time. Are the two parts which i underlined main clauses? Do there any words in those two clauses not belong to the main clauses?
