Grammar

clause

We climbed to the top of the tower.( We had a beautiful view from there.)

My version:
We climbed to the top of the tower from where we had a beautiful view.
( there)

The answer:
We climbed to the top of the tower from which we had a beautiful view.

Could you tell me why the answer use the 'which' to substitute 'there'? Isn't 'top of the tower' a place?
