What is the origin/etymology of 'class act'? Without research, I've always thought it comes from the world of the theatre, particularly the kind of variety show in which different people perform different acts.
A relatively new coinage? Not really.
Is it applicable to "objects without life"? No, it refers tp people and how they do things.
