My neighbourhood was a class-A advertisement for the post--World War Two baby boom. There were lots of young couples with kids.

What is your understanding of the first sentence? Does the writer mean that his neighbourhood is a typical example of baby boom?

My understanding is that they are very typical of how things were just after WWII. Soldiers came home, married their sweethearts, and had families.
