Clarity of a sentence

Hello. Could you please tell me if the following sentence is grammatically correct? Is the meaning clear? Thank you.

"One surface of the sheet was sealed with epoxy resin in order to serve as a holder for handling the samples during the preparation process. The other surface was exposed as the testing area."
