Clarity..

An earthquake of a given magnitude typically devastates an area 100 times greater in the eastern United States than it does in the West.

I guess IT is parallel to AN EARTHQUAKE... So does it imply the same earthquake if it destroys 1 acre in East will destroy 100 acre in west...
