Churned up

Hi,

Can I say that ‘my emotions are all churned up’ or only that ‘I’m churned up’?

Thank you.

Hello Ann,

"churn sb up" means "to make someone upset or angry". So to me, only "I'm churned up." is correct. You can also say "I'm churned up inside."

Best wishes,

Joseph

"Churned" would not be used together with the word "emotions." "Churned" has strong connotations with "butter churn" and is typically used rough, outdoors-type situations like, "The water was churned up from the storm."
