Churchill School - Daily Phrasal Verb

Hello buddies,

I subscribed my e-mail yesterday at Churchill Institute for a daily Phrasal Verb right in my e-mail box. Every week day, they send me a phrasal verb, its definition and examples on how you can use it. http://www.churchillhouse.com (it's 100% free)

I have a suggestion, what if we post everyday the day's phrasal verb and everyone gives one or two examples how to use it? We could interact with other users, learn a phrasal verb everyday and correct our mistakes. I don't know about you, but the only way for me to learn is to practise. '

Let's start it.

To Wear Out

1. To wear out
Definition: to become weak or damaged because of overuse.
E.g.: I have to buy myself a new uniform because I've worn this one out.
// It means that my uniform is overused, it's looking old and etc.

My pants are worn out, take a look at its colour.

Share your examples and let's correct other's mistake in order of a better English for everyone. How does that sound? Emotion: smile

Here's my WORN OUT sentence, about my old car..

"After 100 000 miles, you can imagine that it had gone completely worn out. "

(also you may want to use 'their' instead of 'its' in your sentence as I believe pants is to be considered as plural...)

Mr Lulla,

I'm pretty positive that the adjective 'worn out' is nowadays used for other things than just clothes ; so more in a figurative way obviously.
I'm not that positive that it is applicable to cars though, so it may very well be that my example wasn't that good after all [:^)]

Im quite sure you dont say a car has worn out. So what word fills an old, over-used car?

My car has exhausted with time? My car has broken down with time? deteriorated?

'worn out' is sometimes used for feelings too.

''After 3 years of marriage, our passion wore out.''

The older I get, the more worn out I feel.

These kids are too energetic. They wear me out.
All that exercise wore me out. And it seems it wore out my shoes as well.

It brought to my mind Radiohead's Fake Plastic Tree to mind. The author really uses To Wear Out verb in this song.

Her green plastic watering can
For her fake chinese rubber plant
In fake plastic earth.
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plants
Just to get rid of itself.
And it wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it w
