Vocabulary

Church

When referring to a Catholic priest or bishop, you can refer to him as a "Church elder" with "Church" capitalized, right? When I look up "church" in the dictionary, it capitalizes it for when referring to the clergy and Christians collectively.

Thanks.

Hi, I don''t think Catholic Bishops and Priests are ever referred to as Elders. I think of 'Elders' as senior members of a local congregation, often involved in local religious administration. However, I don't think the Catholic church involves Elders at all.

Another definition is "a superior," so, in the context of the Church, that's what the priest or bishop would be in relation to a mer
