Grammar

chronicle

Hello every one,

After learning English as a foreign language for a long time, I start to love English recently. However, there are some problems happened during my reading. Could anyone help me and give me some suggests about anything, such as the correct grammar, words or punctuation of my questions, the right answer of my inference? I’ll very appreciate your kindness!

How to use “chronicle”?

I agree with this use, “Chronicle the growth of a city”, but how about this,”Few of the remaining 97 percent recorded their thoughts or had them chronicled by contemporaries.”

After few minutes staring and thinking, I inferred as follows.

Subject: Few of the remaining 97 percent

Verb1: record. Their thoughts must be recorded by themselves, that is, the verb here has to be an active voice, not a passive.

Verb2: chronicle. Their chronicle must be chronicled by contemporaries, and this matter had occurred, so it uses past perfect tense and passive.

Is my inference right? Is the best way to express the idea? Besides, I am sorry for my possible expression fault, I also hope you can help me to correct my questionary sentences.
