My advice would be the same as I would give most beginning screenwriters in respect to looking for agents -- and that is that it is easier, as a rule, to get your material read by producers than b

I actually saw the infamous Moon-financed epic film "Inchon" -- with Laurence Olivier playing MacArthur (sp?) -- insanely miscalculated in every possible way. Long-since withdrawn.

There are a variety of production companies interested in doing material which they can aim squarely at middle America -- which isn't quite the same thing you're asking for.

The Mendocino Corporation funded (partially) The Spitfire Grill. I don't know the particulars, but it was touted heavily when it came out as being funded by the Catholic Church. It didn't have a huge budget like a period piece would, but it received some nice reviews and wasn't totally panned. I liked it okay.
