Choose vs select

Is there any difference between "choose" and "select"? Here is what I have been taught:
- "choose" is often used when you can get only one thing
- "select" is often used when you can get more than one things, and "select" indicates that the decision is made carefully
Could you please tell me your opinion?

Greetings, choose is the more general word of the two. It is the only one that can be used without an object. When you select something, you choose it carefully, unless you actually say that you select it at random/randomly .
