Choose one of the following transportation vehicles and explain why you think it has changed people's lives. Automobiles? Bicycles? Airplanes?

Transportation vehicles are an indispensable part of people’s lives. There are a variety of means of transportation we are familiar with including automobiles, bicycles, and airplanes. Among these means, I think automobiles have great impacts on people’s lives and in this essay, I will give reasons to clarify that point.

First of all, the advent of automobiles has improved human’s mobility. Cars help people move quickly from home to work and vice versa, meaning that geographic barriers are nearly eliminated thanks to cars. As a result, citizens nowadays tend to live in suburbs where they can escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. In addition, automobiles also make a great contribution to the logistics and transportation industry. Goods nowadays are transferred more rapidly than in the past. In my country, transfer of fruits from border gates to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, takes just several hours instead of several days as before. Consequently, fruits are still kept their freshness and quality until they are sold for customers.

Secondly, the automotive industry has created lots of new jobs for many people. The industry requires a huge amount of workforce. Each year, there are hundreds of thousands of employees working at various positions in auto companies. According to data from the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI), approximately 25 percent of manufacturing jobs added in the United States since 2009 have come from the auto industry.

Thirdly, growth of automotive industry would promote development of other industries. Car manufacturing is actually assembly of loose components such as frame, engine, glasses, and seats to create final products on “just-in-time” basis. It is impossible to make a car without support from surrounding subsidiary industries. In other words, all other subsidiary industries like glass industry or feather industry would also benefit from progress of automobiles production.

In conclusion, advent of automobiles has revolutionized people’s lives. It enhances human’s mobility, creates new jobs and encourages development of other industries. I believe that human’s lives are becoming better thanks to cars.
