Thanks for help. When I was studying the past continuous, I read that it is used with a specific time in the past.
Examples:
  • Last night at 6 PM, I was eating dinner.
  • At midnight, we were still driving through the desert.
  • Yesterday at this time, I was sitting at my desk at work.

Those examples are all OK. The ones that sound odd to me are those with the past continuous and a for-phrase of time (for an hour, for two months, for three years).

Note that a for-phrase expresses a period of time, an amount of time. The time express
