0I am wondering if there be anyone here around taking linguistics course in Chomskyan UG. I am studying his framework on my own so that whenever there be doubts all I can rely on is myself.02br 02br 00I am now up to the Minimalist Programme, an introduction to which is available under Vivian Cook's canon of works (1996ed). But since this drastically departs from Chomsky's previous works on GB or PS, I am not really certain about the way wherein the framework works. I will summarize how I understand the generation of phrases thereby as follows:02br 02br 001. a random set of lexical items (with their morphological properties) are drawn by Chl (computational system), from which a Numeration is formed.02br 02br 002. Each item then merges with some others to form partial trees; a Derivation is formed piecemeal. (but what accounts for the Head - Complement distinction then? is it the Head which selects the Complement just as in the previous Theta - Theory? How does Chl decide which element merges with which other?)02br 02br 003. Items are then moved, subject to Procrastinate, Greed and MLC (btw: Chris Collins [Economy Conditions in Syntax, published essay, 2001] writes that 'Procrastinate is an Economy Principle.' Do such other Economy Principles as ASAP [timing principle] and Last Resort apply here?).02br 02br 004. D1 proceeds to Spell out, where phonologically relevant information and semantically relevant information are splited. Information available to each interface is exclusive to the other.02br 02br 005. D1 continues to go on such processes as checking until it converges at both interface; redundant information will be deleted at PF or it will crash.02br 02br 00any comments?0-
