Whole sentence is "But Rikyu didn't have a lot of choice"

The warlord called Hideyoshi asked Rikyu to hold a tea ceremony for him the nextday. They were totally different people - one was a thoughtful, quiet man and the other was a rich, powerful soldier who'd been fighting all his life. Bug Rikyu didn't have a lot of choice.

'Choice' is simply an uncountable concept there.
