Choice of words, please comment

I'm writing an article about, well, this:
"Indigo children - KNOWLEDGE of the PROBLEM in preschool EDUCATION"

but I'm having doubts about my choice of words. Perhaps following options would work better?
"Indigo children - KNOWLEDGE (CONVERSANCE - ACQUAINTANCE - AWARENESS - COGNIZANCE - ???) of the PROBLEM (TOPIC - PHENOMENON - ???) in preschool EDUCATION (SETTING - ???)"

I have no idea, how any of this words sound to a native speaker, in this context. Please, help!
By "knowledge" I mean "how much do they know about it".
By "problem" I mean that they perceive those children as a problem.
By "preschool" I mean children from 1 to 6.

Thank you for your comments!
