Choice of perposition

Hi.

That would be kind of you to help find the right perpositions for the following sentences. More than one is possible for each one.

1. I have just hung the wash out, and it's starting to rain. Can you help me to bring it--------?

I can think of in and back

2. When the sun went-------------it was really cold.

I can think of off, down and away

3. Myaunt fell---------the stairs and broke her leg.

I can think of off and down

4. Don't throw that empty box--------I'm sure I can use it for something.

What does wash out mean in the first sentence?

Does it mean the cloth that has been washed?

What does wash out mean in the first sentence? - Hang out the wash = Hang the washed clothes outside.

Does it mean the cloth that has been washed?-- 'Wash' (n) = the clothes that are being or have been washed.

Not really. Some people use one, and some the other.

I agree with Mister Micawber, but I prefer throw out.
Also, I seem to see throw away more often in conversations and books.
