Chiropractor

Explaining my situation to a chiropractor:

It's sore and very stiff, I wonder what could be the cause of this. A couple days ago I was in bed napping caused by my jetlag. When I woke up, I tried to get up, then there was this harsh numbing pain cramping up my upper back. I didn't know what was going on but realized that it was a serious injury. Maybe it was because I had been working out too much during my vacation.

Please proofread. Thank you!

Is the past perfect used correctly here? Or should I stick with the simple past. Thanks!
