Chinese New Year

1 Chinese New year was around the corner. Mei 's father decided to have a spring-cleaning / to do some spring cleaning the next day / the next morning. / They would have a spring-cleaning as usual. Her family woke up early at the crack of dawns. They prepared a lot of cleaning tools before starting to work, Mother would instruct / order them to do some work / works.

2 When they started to clear away / clear out some old stuff, they were shocked to see the amount of dust and cobwebs everywhere. Mei wiped all the furniture with a wet cloth while her sisters changed the cushion covers as well. Her father swept and mopped the floor alone. They were as busy as bees.

3 By noon, everyone was perspiring / Everyone perspired. Everything was done and the house was spick and span. Mei Hua and her sister were in charged of decorating the wall with New Year cards. Her parents arranged the potted plants in the living room while Mei decorated the pants with some ornaments. They were pleased to see the fruits of their labour. Although they were exhausted, they felt happy and proud of the clean house.
