Children’s education is expensive. In some countries, governments pay partly or all education fees. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

In modern days, child education has been receiving a great deal of media attention in terms of free education. Although, I recognize some certain drawbacks this policy may bring, I would argue that the whole education system should be funded by the government.

On the one hand, there are some downsides behind a free education. Firstly, to build such a great education system, which is offered at no cost to all children, governments have to bear a huge financial burden. This involves a variety of costs such as purchasing learning tools and expanding school spaces, which, at a certain point, exceeds the available government funds, resulting in insufficient funds needed for other essential sectors such as healthcare and scientific research. Secondly, a policy of free education somehow may cause the controversies and even the unfairness among taxpayers. For example, some taxpayers who have no kids or live alone, is likely to feel unfair since their money is spent for the sake of others, not for theirs.

However, it seems to me that the benefits of free education are more significant than its drawbacks. One main benefit is that this gives children an incentive go to school, helping them to sharpen their skills and broaden their knowledge. It is an indisputable fact that well-educated and knowledgeable students are likely to land a job and earn a well-paid salary, which contributes to improve the rate of economic growth of the country. Furthermore, a country being able to offering free education and training means that this nation is focusing on generating a well-educated and skilled workforce and making room for further advancement. This will gain a high reputation for the country, attracting more foreign investment and creating more trading activities.

In conclusion, although an education system fully paid by the government can cause some troubles in the short run, I believe that a free education is the key to sustainable development of the country.
