Chickadee

Is there any chance to interpret "chickadee" as crackers/junk foods (or at least a type of)? Or maybe it was at least used to be a type of junk foods? Like the phenomenon where nowadays we say 'pampers' to represent all brands of diapers but it (I mean pampers) actually was a reputable brand name for a disposable diaper some very long time ago (dated back to 1961s)?

Thanks.

You'll have to have some sort of word history for that, Isabelle. Why would you present us arbitrarily with the word 'chickadee'? I don't know of any such product, brand or generic.

  • Any brand name has a 'chance' to become a generic name — excalator, kleenex, thermos, velcro, spandex, chapstick, kitty litter — there are dozens of them.
  • It is just a matter of popularity and time.

Oh Mr. Micawber, my late father used to tell me not to eat too much chickadee for my own good...

Well, perhaps another member is familiar with the word. The on-line dictionaries are not.

Hi,
I just came across this site and I think I can answer for that.
I'm from Malaysia. Back in the 80's (or late 70's), there's a junk food brand called Chickadee.
It's salty and crunchy and it's a very popular junk food among the primary school children.
My parents used to tell me the same, "don't eat/buy chickadee at school".
If you search "Chickadee junk food", you might see
