Chew on

Hi
"I've been CHEWING ON our relationship, and I think that..." (= informal for "I've been thinking about")
Does this make sense? I think I heard this expression in the movie "A Perfect Crime" starring M. Douglas.

There is also, speaking of an important matter that needs to be thought about at some length, I need to chew it over, and, perhaps even more commonly, I need to mull it over.

Yes it's true. "Chew OVER" appears to be even more commonly used, at least according to Google.
