.Broadly speaking -

capability - suggests a trade has the ability to give space. This makes sense based on my knowledge of chess. Obviously a GM has a much deeper knowledge.

I don't want to change it. I want to get the meaning. Both me and my chess coach friend (an Iranian IM) also think that capability fits better. Seirawan himself also gave examples where the player with more space has to avoid exchanges to be able to use his space advantage.

By the way, how have you learned these things about chess?

Why maybe and why maybe not?

Consider these simple examples about a man holding a gun.

He has the capability to kill you.

He has the power to kill you.
