cheers, big ears

Hi,

Yesterday, my friend asked me the meaning of "big ears".

He said, "When I said 'Cheers' to my English teacher, she said 'big ears'. She said 'It's an Austranlian Slang'"

Does anyone understand the meanig of that slang?

Thanks in advance.

  • Maybe she just said 'Big ears' because it rhymes with 'Cheers'.
  • That's mildly humorous.

Hi,

I had sent a mail to one of my clients for which i got the reply "Cheers, big ears". So am i to assume he s being sarcastic or is he trying to humiliate me ?

Thanks..Sundraa
P.S: It was a task that i was supposed to complete so i dont expect him to think i am poking my nose on unnecessary territories.

.
Judging from the previous comments on this thread, it may be rude, but I would give the writer the benefit of the doubt and just ignore the remark-- he may just think he's being humorous.

Cheers, big ears is something Aussies say all the time. It may have originated from people overhearing things but these days its just said because it rhymes. Aussies have a different sense of humour than most other countries, read this, it will healp a lot
