Checking whether the sentence is right?

Please look at the following sentence.

"The beauty of our product as opposed to its competitors is that it is less complicated to use"

Could you tell me whether the sentence above is right or not?
Because I think the writer can simply write "The beauty of our product as opposed to its competitors is less complicated to use".

Why did he put "that it is" there?
