Checking tenses

Hi,
Please check this. I am particularly uncomfortable with the use of the past perfect here.
Context: Instructions to a new assistant

Hi, I am John Doe, your superior. I want to tell you the following about your duties: As an assistant, you shouldn't prepare the monthly report to the headquarters on your own, but if I haven't written up the report by the end of month, you should step in and write up the report and hand that to me.

Top answer

Hello . I am John Doe, your supervisor . I want to tell you the following about your duties: As an assistant, you shouldn't prepare the monthly report to headquarters on your own, but if I haven't written the report by the end of month, you should write the report and submit it to me.

  • Hello .
  • I am John Doe, your supervisor .
  • I want to tell you the following about your duties: As an assistant, you shouldn't prepare the monthly report to headquarters on your own, but if I haven't written the report by the end of month, you should write the report and submit it to me.
  • Your logic is unclear-- first you say that she should not prepare the report, and then you say that she should.
  • If I were the assistant, I would of course always prepare the report just in case you forgot to.
