A complex sentence has one independent clause and at least one dependent clause.

Independent clause functions as independent sentence in comparison to dependent clause which cant stand alone

Although he was wealthy, he was still unhappy.

They contacted the customer who had not paid the bill

He does not like people who are smokers

I saw a man who was crying

The professor asked many questions but no one could answer
