Check the flow of blood

Hello,

which word do you think best fits the gap in the following sentence:

The paramedic managed to ……………………….. the flow of blood by tightly bandaging the wound.
A.check B.restrain C.curb D.inhibit

I would say CHECK (to slow or stop something from doing something). But why not RESTRAIN? Is that because the wound is tightly bandaged and thus it stops the flow totally?

You must find the word that collocates in this context, not simply a word with the right general meaning. All four words mean roughly the same thing, but only 'check' goes with 'flow of blood'.
