At schools, as teaching institutes, the quality of teachers matters than any other thing. Among the essential qualities, I believe 'leadership' is the most important one a teacher should have. Leadership here involves two different meanings. One is the power to control the students and the other is power of his/her specialty in their subjects. There was a survey researching for what type of teachers are the most desirable in England. The result of the survey was natural. Like most Korean students, the students of England think that the teacher who is usually generous and kind but severe when he/she needs to be is the most preferable features. It assumes that the students want someone sho can control them professionally. To be a such teacher, the teacher need to know what their students think, need and want so that he/she could know when to be generous and when to be severe on them. Another type of leadership can be realized when a teacher have a specialty in the subject they teach. Of course having a specialty requires steady efforts of teachers. A teacher of English doesn't mean that he/she knows everything about it. Although the teacher has general abilities of English to teach, he/she still need to develop their abilities. The abilities would be developed by joining academies, studying together with colleague teachers and even studying abroad to get some new ideas about teaching. It's rare, but still there are a few teachers who never try to develop themselves. They are just satisfied with their job. They believe that unless they do something really harm for their students, they are secure against dismissal. It's true. Whether a teacher teaches well or not, he/she is still a teacher. However, teachers should remember that not to be a reader or a translator, but be a teacher. In the same context, I am in favor of pilot evaluation program.
