Food, as a field, has always fascinated me right from my high school days. I believe my interest for this field comes from the fact that it is ubiquitous, essential, innovative and varied. Therefore, I chose to study my Bachelor in Food Chemistry (first class), and later on specialised with a MSc. in Food Safety.
My bachelor education instilled in me technical knowledge and provided a strong foundation in understanding, analyzing and developing chemical processes required for entering the food industry. Moreover, during my master studies I took courses like Food Law, Economics and Quality Management; which reinforced and complemented my technical background. Since I was interested in knowing more about Food Safety policies, I decided to do my internship in the ...... In addition, I participated in a contest from the ...., which consolidate my awareness about food issues worldwide and the importance of food science and innovation as key tools for developing solutions. Finally, my thesis project was performed within the Toxicology Department of .... University in collaboration with the ...... in The Netherlands. This experience gave me the opportunity of been up-to-date and applied state-of-the-art biomolecular techniques, while at the same time inculcated in me problem solving and analytical abilities. All these projects are described in my enclosed resume.
My working experience thus far, has been mainly in the Research and Development area (R&D) of ...., where I was responsible of creating, negotiating and agreeing the raw material specifications for the Ice Cream Category in Latin America. Although my job was sometimes stressful, I really enjoyed it because of its dynamism. In addition, I learned to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments which also helped me to develop my professional skills and competences like leadership, teamwork and capacity of negotiation. My last working experience was as student assistant at the Laboratory of Food Microbiology in ....., where I developed teaching skills while complementing my expertise in laboratory techniques.
My interest in a PhD position at ... relies mainly on its focus of keeping together research organizations and food industry for obtaining knowledge relevant for the food sector. Moreover, its good reputation of high quality work, distinguished industry partners, and the opportunity of continuing working in multidisciplinary teams are some factors which have motivated me to apply. Thus, it can give me innovative and rewarding experiences that can allow me for a broadening of depth and knowledge in a field that I am highly committed to. I am confident that my own strengths and enthusiasm will fit with the institute’s objectives.
