I have to put: some, the, a or put nothing "_".
1. In the bedroom of this flat there are twin beds, a little bedside table between them, and a chair. There are clothes thrown over the chair.
2. Here is the book that you left on my table yesterday.
3. Some men saw a boat on the river.
4. Can you give me a match?
5. I get long _ letters from my mother, but only _ postcards from my brother.
6. Would you like the (some) salad?
7. When did the lesson begin?
8. Pass me a piece of _ bread, please.
9. We bought the (some) cucumbers at the market.

11. Do you find _ English difficult?
12. I got a phone call from my brother last night.
13. I had a piece of bread and some butter and an egg for _ breakfast this morning.

Some quiestions: in the 13th "breakfast this morning" why there is no "breakfast in this morning"?
"Cats like milk" or "The cats like milk?" in this case the word "cats" does mean cats at all, a group of animals with the name "Cats"?

For #6 and #9 ,I'd use 'some'., though it's possible to think of contexts in which 'the' is possible.

All OK. However, you may think of "bread and butter" as a unit in 13. Then you can write I had a piece of bread and butter ....

We don't use a preposition with "this morning", "this afternoon", or "this evening".

No "in" or "on" in any of these: [yesterday / this / tomorrow] [morning / afternoon / evening]

Cats like milk. --- All cats like
