"Check" and "Check out"

Sometimes I feel like we can use "check" and "check out" interchangeably. For example, I will check (out) the paper or any good examples you can think of? Thank you so much as always and have a good and safe day.

I think that they are interchangeable, although it is difficult to say without any context. Additionally, 'to check out' is used to borrow a book from the library. [I'm not sure this address is correct, but I'll check it out / check it / check on it.]
