Cheat of or cheat out of

I cheated him of money.
I cheated him out of money.

Is it 'of' or 'out of'?

Thanks.

Anonymous Is it 'of' or 'out of'? I always say "out of". I suppose you would be understood if you said just "of", but I don't hear it that way.
