Charles had produced a good result, but he needs to be more persistant in his effort.

Hi

Does this setence sound natural, especially the yellow parts?

(Teacher's comment about a student's performance)

Charles had produced a good result, but he needs to be more persistant in his effort.

Thanks,

Tom

'Produce a good result', which my students also produce, always sounds unnatural to me. The point of your sentence eludes me, too-- if Charles succeeded, why does he have to persist? Charles succeeded, but be needs to try harder??
