Characterize strings of words

Hello,

I need help characterizing strings of words according to their part of speech.

I am dealing with [ADP DET NOUN] and [VERB DET ADJ] sequences. Can I identify them as being a certain type of clause ?

What I am wondering is ; can I assume these groups of words are of a particular type just by looking at their part of speech ?
