Hi, I was just wondering, is this short paragraph punctuated correctly, and in terms of analysing characterisation, does it make sense?
Would it also be necessary to put a dash between "single-minded"? I'm not sure...
Thanks in advance!
In addition to its plot, Great Expectations is an essential read because of Dickens’ use of characterisation. One particularly haunting character from the novel is Miss Havisham whose entire life has been defined by her fiancé jilting her at the altar. She refuses to move on, and wears her moth-eaten wedding dress around her dilapidated home. Her greatest aim in life is break the hearts of men, and she uses Estella to do this. She encourages Pip to love Estella, but has no intentions of enabling him to be with her: “Love her, love her, love her!” This allows the reader to see her single minded vengeance and ruthless self-interest.
